Environment Canterbury's Clean Heat Project

Christchurch has long had a significant winter smog problem.  ECan's Clean Heat Project aims to make the city cleaner and healthier to live in. You may be eligible for financial assistance to replace your open fire or solid fuel burner with a heat pump.

Canterbury's regional authority, Environment Canterbury (or ECan) is responsible for developing initiatives to reduce air pollution in Christchurch.  The $38 million dollar Clean Heat Project is aimed at reducing pollution by providing homeowners with financial assistance to enable them to replace their open fires or solid fuel burners with cleaner heating appliances such as heat pumps.  The fund also provides assistance for other energy efficiency measures such as insulation.

The Clean Heat Project offers a range of options for homeowners and landlords including loans, partial subsidies and full assistance subsidies, providing the home meets its eligibility criteria. To take advantage of the partial subsidy or 0% interest loan, the replacement heating appliance must be purchased from an approved supplier such as Gavin Lowe Air Conditioning.

ECan's website offers a lot of information on the project, including answers to many frequently asked questions, and we believe it's well worth a visit.  With the assistance of the Clean Heat Project you could have a heat pump installed in your home in no time and have the comfort of knowing you're helping to make Christchurch a cleaner, healthier place.
